Our Mission & Vision

Our mission is to celebrate and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Dominican community, fostering a deep sense of identity and belonging among current and future generations. Our goal is to empower individuals to research their family background, embrace their roots, share their traditions, and cultivate a vibrant cultural landscape that honors their heritage while sharing a sense of identity.  The celebration of cultural diversity is not just a recognition of our differences but a powerful reminder of our shared humanity, paving the way for a brighter, more connected future.

Official Story behind the Bottle

From the Island to Your Glass

Mama Juanita was born from a love of Dominican culture, tradition and a passion for sharing the island’s most iconic elixir.

The intriguing name "Mama Juana" traces back to the 14th Century.  According to legend, Queen Joanna I of Naples took shelter during a torrential storm in a French glassblower workship, Her fascination with glass- making led to the creation of a 10-liter bottle, resulting in the shape of Queen Joanna described as having "full breasts with a long neck.” The French glassmaker referred to the Queen as “Dame Jeanne”. The bottle is shaped with the queens figure with bottom half shaped larger with a long neck.

“Dame Juana” was adopted by the Spanish, and over time, in the Dominican Republic, the term “Dama Juana” later morphed into “Mama (Mother) Juana (Jane)”

Where History Meets Identity

Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County, California, Enyie’s early aversion to history transformed into a passionate quest for family heritage. She discovered the  significance of understanding ancestry and cultural roots.  Her interest developed into the complexities of pre-colonial and colonial history, recognizing how the Renaissance catalyzed a fusion of traditional native practices and Spanish influence that resonates today.

A Passion for Culture

With a background enriched by her Cuban and Dominican heritage, Enyie holds a Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH), equipping her with a perspective on the importance of individual well-being and cultural identity.  She believes in the power of  shared practices, and knowledge  passed down through generations that are valued and maintained by multiple societies.

Through Bejucos, Enyie reintroduces a conversational piece of Dominican traditions, that evokes memories of a past time.
